Today I went and photographed two business headshots for www.GESNevada.com and it’s amazing how at least once a week I hear a common joke said to photographers. As I was packing up my equipment and walking out the door, someone peaked into the room and said, “Nobody broke the camera, huh?” I smiled and said, “Nope, it still works.” I don’t mind this joke. In reality, I love to hear it because I think I’m going to start a tally and then at the end of the year I can count how many times it was said to me in a year. Heck I might even make a few flow charts or something to see if there’s a pattern of it being said from month to month. hahaha Anyway, here’s my wedding announcement that’s being sent in the mail soon.

Back:

Admit it, you’re happy for me.
Back to work!

So last weekend my girlfriend Kendra and I went up to my Dad’s house in New Harmony, Utah. Earlier when it was dark we set up my camera and opened the shutter and ran out into the darkness with a flashlight and made some fun stuff. Such as….

Here’s me harnessing ultimate power…

Lightsabre battle…
After taking a break, we went inside with my sister and her husband and their baby and along with my Dad, we all played a game of Mad Gab. If you’ve never played it, get it so you can understand my love/hate relationship with the game. I was becoming ansty and took Kendra outside again for some more flashlight painting fun but I had something else in mind.
“Let’s play a game. I’ll go out there and write a question then you answer it.” She agreed and the plan was underway! I tried to throw her off at first by asking something simple:

That’s supposed to say, “How old are you?”
She answered with her flashlight something unreadable so I moved onto the next question:

“Love me?”
She answered:

I moved onto the big one…

“Marry me?”
I walked back to her standing by my camera as she looked at the screen with a grin. Without saying a word she grabbed the flashlight, walked off into the darkness and painted:

“Of course”
Cool huh?
I’m engaged everybody! January 23rd, 2010. See you there!

In my living room, right by the door, hangs a 16×24 portrait of my mother and sister. It is one of my favorite portraits I’ve taken. It’s a simple photograph yet for me it shows my mother’s personality and character perfectly as the caring, loving person who always put her family and others before herself. She was a wonderful example for me and my brother and sister.

This was taken on March 29, 2009. She passed away on June 23, 2009. I took these portraits of her knowing that her time was short and I wanted something special for us all to remember her by. A few months earlier, I also took portraits of she and my Dad together. Before then, they had never had a portrait taken together. I was happy I could be the one to do the work for them. I also did it as one of my final gifts to her in hopes of giving her a little cheer in her final days before her passing. One of the last e-mails I received from her before she could no longer get out of bed was concerning this photo. She said one quick line, “Nate, I am speechless. It is beyond words.” I’m glad she liked it.

At her funeral, along with my brother, brother in law and my cousins, was able to be a paul bearer for her. I was very nervous about this even though I have been a paul bearer several times before. It was a very humbling experience that I’m honored to have been apart of for my mother, though it was very difficult.

My brother Randy and I were in front.

Placing my flower on her casket.
I really love being a photographer. I love creating heirlooms that will be passed down for generations to come long after I’m dead and gone. I can now more genuinely attest to their importance because of my mother’s passing. I miss her very much. It saddens me to think I cannot call her when I please just to say “hi.” I’m so glad I took the time to take her photograph her when I could. Ok, that’s enough of me being sappy. I’ll let you go. Thanks for reading!

I photographed a great family about a week ago. Paul is a photographer too so he knows what he wants out of a family portrait. As I was photographing his son and daughter he snapped one of me and sent it to me. I love it when people do this! I’m always so flattered, regardless of what ninja position my body is in while I’m snapping the photo.
I’ll post more soon!

Hey everybody! First off, thanks to everyone who keeps becoming a fan of TNG Photography on Facebook. I’ve been really busy lately! Weddings, bridals, Eagle scouts, families, kids, seniors, engagement photos, etc. Here is one of my favorite images from the past few weeks. This is Natalie and her one week old son, Ashton. Call me a girl but I love these kinds of photos…and not just because I took it.
I love emotional portraiture. It’s a great feeling to know that in a few generations from now when I’m long gone, hopefully the portraits I’ve made of people are still around to be enjoyed and remembered. As Albert Einstein once said, “A photograph never grows old. You and I change, people change all through the months and years, but a photograph always remains the same.” Ok! On to the portrait!

Oh and here’s a new song for you to listen to.
Talk to ya later!

I have a confession. I love classical music. Have you ever met a 25 year old who likes opera? We’re few and far between but we exist…lurking in the shadows with our sweaters over our heads… hahah I kid. Anyway, I thought it’d be fun if once and a while I posted a song (no matter what the type) on here that I’m currently addicted to.
People think it’s weird that I like opera. Shoot, I even think its weird. haha Most people have probably heard it, enjoyed it an didn’t realize that it was opera they were listening to. For anyone interested in listening to it, I suggest starting with light voices. I call it POPer (Sarah Brightman, Andrea Bocelli, Russell Watson, Il Divo, Amici Forever, etc. etc.). They have great voices but they are geared towards the every day public. Eventually you’ll like their music and get curious about the likes of Pavarotti, Bjorling, Domingo, Sherrill Milnes and all those other guys that most people have never heard of.
Ok, here’s my submission for the week!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1k5l4oiCEc
Singer is Natalie Dessay. I think anyone can appreciate this song and Natalie’s insanely amazing voice and range. She’s very good.
Feel free to comment and post songs you enjoy!

So the other day I looked in the mirror and realized, “Oh…my…gosh. My hair is as thick as a husky’s.” I got in my car and headed down to where I typically get my hair cut. I tend to think that because of how simple of a hairstyle I have (military cut) that stylists love having me there because they’re done working on me in 5 minutes. So at around 4:59 minutes into the cut, I was all done, ready to leave. The nice lady took the nylon sheet thing off from around my neck and I stood up, turned around, only to see her falling, quite slowly, to the floor. Have you ever been close to a person who tripped, but as they were falling, you froze, helpless and useless? That was me as she was heading down to the cold, tile salon floor. She had tripped on her own razor’s extension cord. As she rolled onto her back she was in a little bit of pain saying, “My knee!” while holding her forehead with both hands. By the looks of it, I thought she hit her head but I guess her knee hurt more.
I helped her up and we sat her in a chair that normally sits a customer and I tried to make light of the situation and cheer her up. She was obviously embarrassed but we all know what it’s like to fall in front of a people. Not fun. It’s funny LATER though.
I’m definitely no stranger to falling. I’ll tell you one of my hundreds of “clumsy Nate” stories. For now though, enjoy this hilarious video of people falling and be happy that they’re all OK and you weren’t in the videos!
